At just the beginning of his professional journey, Seriba Doumbia is already showing the mentality and discipline required of a modern goalkeeper. From playing in the streets with friends and brothers to proudly representing the Mali national football team at the youth level, his path has been shaped by passion, resilience, and ambition.
Inspired by Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid CF, Doumbia embraces the responsibility of being the last line of defense a leader who combines composure, strong distribution, and a relentless work ethic. In this exclusive interview, he speaks about his childhood, handling pressure, his toughest match against Djoliba AC, and his dream of playing at the highest level in Europe.

Seriba, can you tell us about your childhood and how football became part of your life, and how you decided to be a goalkeeper?

Well, I started loving football from the moment I touched the ball. I also watched matches on TV and admired the goalkeepers, whose role is to protect and save the team. I had a pleasant childhood with my brothers and My Friends. We played every day in the streets, and I would volunteer to be the goalkeeper. I used to challenge anyone who could manage to score in my goal. Little by little, I learned to love being a goalkeeper.

You were part of Mali’s youth national setup. How did it feel to represent your country?

I felt great joy. It was a source of pride for me to represent the flag of the Mali national team because every Young player dreams of playing for his country.

How different is international football compared to club football?

In the national team, there are many high-quality and very technical players who are mentally well prepared. The intensity and demands of training are higher than in clubs.

Goalkeeping is a high-pressure position. How do you handle pressure during matches?

I manage pressure thanks to my teammates and my family, who give me the confidence and moral support, both on and off the pitch so I can perform at my best during matches and training sessions.

What has been your most difficult match so far, and what did you learn from it?

It was my match against Djoliba AC. I learned that a goalkeeper must take advantage of being the last man of his team, the one who secures the defense and has the time to analyze the game in order to better identify weaknesses in both his own team and the opposition.

How important is having the right management or agent for your career development, and do you have one?

A player needs to have an agent to improve his development, receive good advice, and make well-thought-out decisions for his future and his growth both on and off the field.

Do you dream of playing in Europe or another major league?

Playing in Europe is one of my dreams. I want to play at the highest level and get closer to the players who inspired me.

Favorite goalkeeper?

My goalkeeper role model is Thibaut Courtois from Real Madrid.

What does a typical training week look like for you?

During the week, I focus a lot on specific goalkeeper training. I work on reflex saves, positioning, one-on-one situations, aerial balls, and communication with my defenders. I also do physical preparation, strength, agility, and explosive work, because goalkeeping requires power and quick reactions.

Modern goalkeeping requires strong footwork and distribution. How would you evaluate your ability with the ball at your feet?

I work a lot on my footwork and distribution during training. I am confident playing short passes to build from the back, and I am also capable of delivering long and accurate balls when needed.Of course, I always look to improve, but I believe my ability with the ball at my feet is one of my strengths and helps my team control the game better.
